Summer’s coming. The trails are beckoning, the campsites are booked, and the packing lists sorted, but are your bikes in peak condition and ready to go?
Before you head away for epic weekend rides make sure your bike has been serviced for maximum performance.
Not sure what needs doing, or when? Read on, we’ve got you covered.
Mountain Bike Servicing is Essential for Safety and Performance.
Whether you’re navigating tight trails at speed or tentatively testing your first track, your bike takes a hammering, causing wear and tear that if not properly looked after, could lead to premature failure or cause an accident when you least expect it. Regular servicing not only keeps your bike safe but also extends its longevity, so you can enjoy your rides for years to come.
Booking in regular servicing means:
Epic Performance:
A well-maintained bike offers better control, smoother handling, and a more enjoyable ride. Proper suspension tuning allows you to tackle rough terrain with ease, while responsive brakes keep you in control going downhill.
Increased longevity:
Routine maintenance helps address minor issues before they escalate into major problems. Replacing worn-out parts early can save you from costly repairs down the track.
Your safety:
A mountain bike in top condition is not just a luxury. Worn brakes or tyres can lead to accidents. Servicing ensures your bike is reliable and safe for every ride, for the whole family.
How often should I get my bike serviced?
We recommend alternating between a General Service and an Annual Service each year (one every six months), with add ons for specific concerns. We’re tackling mountain bike servicing in this read, for e-bike maintenance you can check out e-bike health check and servicing here here.
General Service:
This service covers checking and inflating tyres, cleaning, brake checks, gear adjustments and more. A general service prevents minor issues from becoming expensive fixes and ensures your bike is always ready for your next mission.
Kids been pedalling on the beach? Make sure you give it a good rinse down as soon as you get home for a smoother, rust free ride on the trails.
Annual Service:
A comprehensive service, it covers everything in the general service and goes further with an ultrasonic drive clean, regreasing and full inspection of all components.
Racing in the wet? If you’ve been racing in heavy weather or submerged your bike in a river crossing, best give us a call and book an annual service to flush out your bike and get it back to 100%.
What’s involved?
50 Hour Suspension Service:
Every 50 hours of riding, your front fork and rear shock require a basic service. Think of it as an oil change for your car. The oil and grease inside the fork and shock get dirty from riding, and if left unchecked, can lead to performance issues – cleaning out your shocks and replacing the seals leads to better handling and a smoother ride. Keeping up with this service ensures your suspension stays in great shape for the long haul.
150 Hour Service:
After 150 hours of riding—or about once a year—a complete rebuild of your suspension system is recommended. We replace every seal inside your suspension system for better responsiveness and reducing the risk of damage to internal components.
We use an Adreani vacuum bleeder to remove air from the oil during the rebuild, something not all shops can do in-house. This tool ensures that your shock operates at peak efficiency, providing you with the best performance possible.
Brake service:
Brake maintenance is critical for safety. Over time, hydraulic brakes can accumulate dirt and air in the lines, reducing their stopping power. We recommend brake bleeds (flushing out your brakes) when you replace your brake pads or if you notice a spongy feel in the lever. This service ensures trustworthy brakes. Better for your ride, and your confidence.
